Virginia Luka was born in Palau and raised on Guam before moving to Oregon 16 years ago. She graduated from Portland State University with a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership and Policy with an emphasis is Leadership for Sustainability Education in 2016. Her research experience includes Pacific Islander culture and history, with a focus on Micronesia.
Virginia was a PSU University Studies Graduate Peer Mentor for two years before being offered an advisor position with Student Activities and Leadership Programs supporting the academic and pre-professional student organizations for almost 5 years.
During her time at PSU, she was a student leader with CAPAS: Coalition for Asian Pacific American Students. As staff, she served on several committees including the API Employee Resource Group, API Task Force, Diversity Action Council, and the Queer Resource Center Advisory Board. Virginia was awarded the New Professional of the Year Award in 2015 and presented the President’s Diversity Award for Outstanding Staff of the Year in 2017.
Virginia is currently the Program Specialist Senior for the Pacific Islander Community with Multnomah County's Health Department and serves on the boards of United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance Portland, Living Islands, and Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon.
